Heny graduated from the Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). She was experienced as a researcher at Center for Policy and Implementation Studies (CPIS) from 1998 – 2002; Institute for Multidisciplinary Research (IMDR) from 2003 – 2009; and Sustainable Development Indonesia (SDI) from 2009 - 2011.

She has actively promoted certification of sustainable forest management and forest-based products by joining the Indonesian Eco-labeling Institute (LEI) in 2002 – 2003; and the Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC) as a technical manager in 2011 – August 2022.
