INDUSTRI KEHUTANAN: Diberlakukan Sertifikasi Standar PEFC

Bisnis.com, JAKARTA - Indonesia pada akhir tahun ini diperkirakan memiliki sistem sertifikasi hutan yang diakui Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Kepala Proyek dan Pengembangan PEFC, Sarah Price di Jakarta, Rabu (7/5/2014), mengatakan pihaknya segera merampungkan hasil terhadap sistem sertifikasi hutan di Indonesia Agustus 2014.

"Hasil penilaian ini akan menjadi tonggak baru dalam tata kelola hutan dan produk turunannya untuk bisa diterima oleh lebih 34 negara pembeli global," ujarnya, Menurut dia, 34 negara pembeli itu mensyaratkan produk berekolabel dari negara produsen termasuk Indonesia.

"Ada ribuan perusahaan yang membutuhkan bahan baku kayu yang tersertifikasi oleh standar PEFC," katanya.

Konsultan Perkumpulan Kerjasama Sertifikasi Kehutanan Indonesia/Indonesia Forestry Certification Cooperative (IFCC) Nurcahyo Adi menyatakan standar sertifikasi PEFC berbeda dengan standar sertifikasi lain yang diadopsi dari negara pengusung sertifikasi.

"PEFC mengadopsi kebutuhan lokal, akan ada kebanggaan bagi kita karena sertifikasi yang kita terapkan berdasarkan dorongan dari perusahaan hutan dan pabrik kayu di dalam negeri, bukan semata-mata memenuhi kebutuhan pasar," katanya.

Sindonews.com - Produk hasil hutan Indonesia kesulitan masuk ke pasar internasional. Ini disebabkan beberapa negara maju menerapkan aturan non tarif barrier sehingga menghambat pemasaran produk hasil hutan Indonesia di pasar internasional.

Kepala Proyek dan Pengembangan Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), Sarah Price mengungkapkan, aturan non tarif barrier tersebut diterapkan Amerika Serikat (AS) berupa Lacey Act. Selanjutnya, untuk Uni Eropa menerapkan European Union Timber Regulation, dan Illegal Logging Prohibition Bill di Australia.

“Semua peraturan ini mengharuskan para pelaku pasar mengambil langkah tambahan untuk mengkonfirmasi status legalitas dari sumber produk-produk hutan yang memasuki pasar mereka,” ujar Sarah di Jakarta, Rabu (7/5/2014).

Aturan yang diterapkan di AS, Uni Eropa dan Australia tersebut pada umumnya mensyarakatkan produk hasil hutan yang masuk diketahui asal-usulnya. Yakni, harus berasal dari kawasan hutan lestari.

Sindonews.com - Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) bekerja sama dengan Perkumpulan Kerja Sama Sertifikasi Kehutanan Indonesia (Indonesia Forestry Certification Cooperative/IFCC) menerapkan sertifikasi hasil hutan.

IFCC telah menyerahkan sistem sertifikasi hutan untuk dinilai PEFC pada November 2013. “Diharapkan pada Agustus 2014 sudah ada hasilnya,” ujar Ketua IFCC Dradjad Wibowo, Rabu (7/5/2014).

PEFC adalah sistem sertifikasi hutan terbesar di dunia. PEFC membentuk sebuah aliansi sistem sertifikasi hutan nasional di berbagai negara, yang semuanya memenuhi persyaratan global dalam Acuan Keberlanjutan PEFC (PEFC’s Sustainability Benchmark Requirements).

“Adanya skema IFCC di Indonesia memungkinkan produsen kertas dan industri hutan lainnya memasok bahan baku bersertifikat PEFC dari dalam negeri,” kata Dradjad.

National Forest Certification Approaches Trigger Interest @ Forests Asia Summit

There is a strong interest in learning more about PEFC’s unique bottom-up approach to forest certification and the benefits it offers to promoting sustainable forest management in Asian countries,” reported Sarah Price, Head of Project and Development at PEFC International, from the Forests Asia Summit in Jakarta, which was opened today. “Participants are especially interested to learn about Indonesia's new forest certification system (IFCC) and when they can anticipate PEFC-recognized, certified forests in Indonesia.”

The Forest Asia Summit, which opened its doors earlier today, is the largest in Asia in recent years and has attracted more than 2000 stakeholders from Southeast Asia and across the world. Ministers from across Southeast Asia join CEOs, civil society leaders, development experts and the world’s top scientists to share knowledge on how the region can accelerate the shift toward a green economy by better managing its forests and landscapes.

PEFC Continues Expansion in the Tropics

Indonesia has become the latest Asian country to join PEFC after after China and Malaysia, demonstrating that PEFC is the forest certification system of choice for region. TheIndonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC) decision to join the world's largest forest certification system was founded in PEFC's unique bottom-up approach, which respects the uniqueness of sovereignty, ecosystem diversity, and the culture of every country.

“Indonesia is home of some of the most biologically diverse forests in the world.  We are looking forward to working with IFCC to promote sustainable forest management through forest certification and welcome them as a PEFC member,” said Ben Gunneberg, PEFC Secretary General.

“PEFC has refined its Sustainability Benchmarks over the past years to remove barriers to tropical forest certification, and we are excited to see the development of a national forest certification standard by Indonesians for Indonesians,” added Mr. Gunneberg. "The promise of Indonesian's forests being managed sustainably, in a manner that provides people with jobs that comply with the fundamental ILO conventions, safeguards forest biodiversity, and protects them from conversions, should be viewed by all who care about saving the world's forests as an important first step in the right direction. The fact that the challenges of the past will be addressed for a sustainable future is positive."
